Gentian is a beautiful mountain plant which can grow up to a metre high and has lovely yellow flowers which nestle into the leaves. It should not be confused with white heliebore, a highly poisonous plant which looks similar, but whose leaves alternate up the stem. The latter has white flowers.

Genziopricina, amarogentin, alkaloids, tannins
Aids digestion, liver function and the elimination of gas from the intestine.
Use: Gentian should not be used by nursing mothers as it makes the milk bitter.
