Horsetail grows widely across Italy's countryside, mainly beside ditches and canals as it loves humidity. The tall, seeded stems appear in spring and look similar to asparagus but are brown. The plant also produces seedless stems, which appear later - these are green and with abundant stem growth. This is the part that is used to produce the tincture.
